EV Battery Fire Shield to Be Displayed at The Battery Show North America
At MAFTEC, we are engaged in solving issues to achieve a decarbonized society.
The introduction of EVs is key to the decarbonization of the mobility sector. However, the lithium ion batteries used in EVs are prone to thermal runaway, which can lead to the risk of explosion. The spread of fire can in turn put drivers and passengers in danger, and so EV battery fire shields are essential.
The MAFTEC needle blanket has a melting point of 1,850℃ and boasts excellent tensile strength even at high temperatures. By combining this with inorganic fiber woven cloth, we were able to create a lightweight material with outstanding fireproof properties, fire resistance, and particle impact resistance. EV battery prototypes using MAFTEC as fireproof material are to go on display at The Battery Show North America in Novi, Michigan, from September 12th to 14th, 2023. At the same time, we plan to display the MAFTEC fire shield material alone.

Hosted in a suburb of Detroit, The Battery Show North America is the largest EV battery trade show in North America. The trade show will feature exhibits by more than 700 companies and lectures from more than 200 speakers.
The EV battery prototypes using MAFTEC fire shields, as well as the fire shields themselves, will be on display at the Mitsubishi Chemical America booth (No. 711), while MAFTEC engineers are scheduled to be onsite to provide explanations.
